How do I reconcile "Life is pain, Highness, anyone who says differently is selling something" with "Always look on the bright side of life"?
I just got back from Wisconsin, and I loved the house. My wife and I will accept the counter offer. There's a lot to be done (painting walls that currently have odd color choices, replacing the hideous carpeting in the master bedroom, etc.), but we will have fun making it our own.

I am an English professor who is being dragged kicking and screaming into middle age. I teach literature at a small liberal-arts college (part of the University of Wisconsin Colleges system). The name "the flexible generalist" is both a reflection of my teaching experience and of the lack of focus for this blog.
